  • Bernadette Soubirous – As a young girl had visions of the Virgin Mary at Lourdes, France. Later canonised as a saint,
  • Joan of Arc – uneducated French peasant girl, who shaped a nation’s destiny.
  • William Tyndale– Reforming priest who sought to see the Bible translated into English and greater use of the gospel in church.
  • John Wesley – Founder of Methodism.
  • Thomas Beckett – Saint murdered by Henry II
  • Abbe Pierre – French Priest known for humanitarian works.
  • Dietrich Bonhoeffer – Germany priest who opposed Hitler
  • Desmond Tutu – South African Bishop who opposed apartheid.
  • Martin Luther – Great leader of the Reformation.

  • St Paul – an early follower of Christ. Wrote letters of St Paul, which forms an important part of the New Testament.
  • John Wycliffe – 14th Century reformer. Helped produce first Bibles in English and attacked privileges of the church.
  • John Wesley – Founder of Methodism
  • Maximilian Kolbe – Polish priest. Volunteered to die in someone’s place at Auschwitz.
  • Pope Francis (1936 – ) First pope from the Americas and first Jesuit pope.
